About our panelists:
Judge Ann Claire Williams was the first woman of color to be nominated to a seat on a U.S. district court within the Seventh Circuit when she was nominated for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by President Reagan in in 1985. In 1999, she became the first and only judge of color to sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the third Black woman to serve on any federal circuit court.
Professor Carolyn Shapiro is the founder and co-director of Chicago-Kent College of Law's Institute on the Supreme Court of the United States. Her scholarship is focused on the Supreme Court, its relationship to other courts and institutions, and its role in our constitutional democracy. She previously served as the Solicitor General of the State of Illinois.
Professor Felice Batlan is a renowned scholar and author in the field of women’s legal history. She has published and presented extensively on the topics of legal history, women in the legal profession, and feminist legal theory.
