Lincoln’s Law Practice
Professor Samuel Wheeler, the Illinois Supreme Court’s Director of History Programs, will discuss Abraham Lincoln’s law practice. We’re fortunate to have an extensive record of the cases Abraham Lincoln handled as an Illinois lawyer. Though known to history as a great president, he also spent many years as a practicing attorney, appearing as counsel of record in approximately 175 cases before the Illinois Supreme Court. Professor Wheeler will discuss the types of cases Lincoln handled and give the audience a sense of how he made his name in the years leading up to his presidency.
